Fight for the Fish

During my last trip to Baja we were on our way to the river mouth to do some kiting when we spotted a Sea Eagle that appeared to be struggling in the surf. At first we thought it was injured, but when we stopped for a closer look we realized that it had caught a fish too big to carry. With every effort the Eagle managed to get the fish to shore and, upon arrival, immediately attracted the attention of a Seagull. Not long after that the Seagull was joined by more seagulls and a couple Vultures. The Eagle was persistent, however, and kept hold of the fish while struggling to make its way up the beach. Suddenly a Pelican arrived out of nowhere and effortlessly snatched the fish out of the grip of the Eagle in one swift chomp of the beak. And luckily we had the camera ready…
